An extremely practical entry which we found very believable and well designed from start to finish.

Current designs for such installations include urinals which raise from the walkway after 9pm, particularly near bar areas while they lower during the daytime.

In this case it would potentially be a beautiful design to what is a relatively unpleasant experience and human necessity, still how would one deal with the security aspect to avoid someone sleeping inside the system??

Freedom of speech is always an area of much debate…excuse the pun…and on a fine line between discussion and potential protest.

Often protesting can lead to violence and destruction therefore regardless of how free the speech may be an aspect of control is required.

The design has potential however is very basic, at the moment anyone could roll out a mat underneath a lamppost, while does public space necessarily require such designation??

There’s is nothing that would make us smile more than seeing this project come into reality.  The most playful entry, however, it is realistically just an oversized toy..a child’s delight

A very radical design, taking the concept of what would potentially be a museum or interior installation and introducing it into the outdoor environment.  We are particularly interested in the integration of such a variety of senses, often aspects such as sound are neglected in architectural design.

There are also very strong conceptual images however, it is difficult to believe how the system could actually be integrated successfully.  Perhaps live music and busking is a simple solution??

There is strength in this competition entry the aspect of changing wasted energy into useful energy.  The project approaches the excessive waste energy produced by automobiles in particular.

Previous attempt have been tested such as in Germany heat absorption panels have been attached to car bonnets to absorb the heat excess from the engine as it cools in the car park.  However, realistically the most effective way is by car pooling, the biggest waste of energy is a car with a single passenger inside.

This entry also tackled the issue of changing wasted energy into potential energy for electronic devices a theme which we would like to have seen developed further

One may say the biggest test of architecture is time, therefore it was an interesting approach to the competition.

However, as mentioned previously when introducing such systems there needs to be an element of control…there must be a method in the madness or at least organized chaos.  Though there is beauty in freedom the overall system lacks clarity and would require further development to become more convincing.

Graphically the most impressive entry, however, it could be further developed to integrate human installation, interaction and control of the system.  The field of biological architecture is a sector definitely underdeveloped, with the future of architecture very much in balance with sustainability it would be an extremely valuable aspect to further investigate.

One must understand the positive and negative effects of introducing a new system into the environment if there is little control this could lead to detremental results.

However, a great response to dealing with the steel-framed eye sores of the countryside.

Dealing with the overdevelopment of the automobile sector was a popular topic tackled by many entries in the competition, reflecting that Architects and Designers are very aware and possibly concerned of the potential change in the urban development of the cities and the vulnerablility of human communications in and around them.

This design was relatively conceptual and reflects how exploited land should in effect return to what was most likely its previous use as agriculture and habitat.

Perhaps a better way of dealing with the situation is developing transport systems which can replace the use of the car much like in modern European cities.

However, giving the land back to be used as farmland is an important start in allowing the development of local produce and materials instead of relying upon imports.

Very well developed design in particular with regards to waste management which is then recycled into compost through Ancient Egyptian irrigation methods.

However, the design fails do mention how the pods would be integrated into the forest, do they just float in the trees??  While how do they relate to one another??  Perhaps the design should begin with the trees and analysis of the existing forest upon which the project would interact and intertwine, the basic approach to tree house design, much like Robinson Crusoe and even in the recent movie Avatar.

Still the aspect of waking up in an egg in the middle of a forest would be a delight.
